There are a great many luminous Christmas decorations here. In many places, municipal gardener Henryka Zdziech has placed wings. “This season, we have a winged palm house,” she says. “It is a reference to angel wings and the winged inhabitants of our palm house. It is not only the children who come here who are enchanted by the magic of this place.”
Almost as on Christmas Eve, when animals speak with human voices, the parrots here are talking loudly and calling over one another. Especially the macaws—Hela and Marian. They have been a well-matched pair for years, although they have not yet had offspring. Their green neighbor Balbina and the cockatoo Śnieżynka join in. The children gave her this ideal name for the winter season. The parrots are especially eager to converse when offered mandarins, oranges and nuts.
From December 1 to March 31, the palm house is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This also applies on weekends. Admission is free.
