There were greetings, the aroma of gingerbread, pierogi-making, Christmas-tree decoration workshops, a nativity play and a shared meal. As always, the hospitable residents of Łaziska took care of everything, inviting everyone who loves Christmas to their village.
The evening began creatively: both children and adults took part in workshops led by Anetta Kamińska and Krystyna Grela. Everyone who wished to could try their hand at icing gingerbread and making original Christmas-tree decorations. Interest was enormous, as was the participants’ imagination. Finally, the moment eagerly awaited by the youngest arrived: the Rural Housewives’ Circle invited them into the kitchen to bake cookies and make pierogi together. Thus, we can feel confident about the future of the local KGW—the younger generation is showing culinary talent. An additional attraction was the opportunity to purchase handmade Christmas centerpieces and soft toys prepared by the women from the ProFuturis Foundation.
Meanwhile, the Ocice Singing Ensemble, led by Edward Braszko, invited everyone to sing Christmas carols together, and the hall of the Community Center filled with loud singing. Singing also accompanied the nativity play, which the children performed once again. Their talent was rewarded with thunderous applause and sweets provided by Grażyna Łucka.
The Evening of Christmas Traditions was also an opportunity to present awards in the Christmas Card Competition organized by the Bolesławiec Municipality and the Municipal Cultural and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn. First place in the 5–8 age category went to Emilia Burmas from Bożejowice, while in the 9–12 category it went to Kamil Kuczyński from Żeliszów. The commission also awarded two distinctions—to Marcelina Wieczorek from Kraśnik Górny and Julita Jaworska from Kruszyn. The awards were presented to the talented artists by Bolesławiec Municipality Head Andrzej Dutkowski and Bolesławiec Municipal Council Chair Bogusław Uziej. It is worth adding that the winning works were printed and this year became the official Christmas cards sent by the Bolesławiec Municipal Office.
When the time came for greetings, Joanna Łucka, the village head of Łaziska, conveyed them to everyone gathered on behalf of the organizers. She was joined in turn by Elżbieta Osuchowska, chair of the “Nasze Łaziska” Association; Grażyna Łucka, a councillor on the Bolesławiec Municipal Council; Andrzej Dutkowski, the Municipality Head; and Rev. Ludwik Maciak, the parish priest. Meanwhile, senior resident Wanda Surowiecka recited a beautiful poem.
An especially moving moment is always the time when everyone shares the Christmas wafer. Those gathered wished one another, above all, good health and peaceful holidays. The evening ended with a shared Christmas Eve supper prepared by the women from the KGW.
