All the residents acted very cautiously and sensibly, handing no money over to the fraudsters. “Let us warn our loved ones. Let us not be deceived. Increasingly often, in order to appear more credible, fraudsters pretend to be, for example, police officers. Let us remember! Police officers never ask people to hand money over to strangers. Let us be careful,” say officers from the Zgorzelec County Police Headquarters.

Let us remember: fraudsters prey on human naivety. Let us exercise particular caution. Let us take care of our loved ones, especially elderly people, and make them aware of this type of behavior. It is enough to follow a few basic safety rules. Do not provide any information over the phone about our home or savings. Do not say over the phone when we are at home or whom we live with. Do not hand cash or any other items over to unknown people. Do not let people we do not know into our homes. A single call to a relative using a known number is enough to confirm whether a family member really needs financial support. Let us follow these few simple pieces of advice before we lose savings accumulated over, in many cases, an entire lifetime.

In every such case, the police should be notified.
