Municipal officials approved the quality of the work on the construction of traffic lights activated at a pedestrian crossing along provincial road no. 297 (specifically, near the “Leśny Potok” Recreation and Leisure Centre, Jeleniogórska Street). – Although the earlier declarations of co-financing were not fulfilled by our partners [chodzi o Dolnośląską Służbę Dróg i Kolei – przyp. „ii”] – said Piotr Roman. – We decided that, regardless of everything, these traffic lights would be installed there.
Why there? The first reason, the mayor explained, is safety near the retention reservoir (the centre is very popular with Bolesławiec residents). The second is to slow down cars entering the city from the south.
“These lights are intelligent,” Piotr Roman stressed. “When a car approaches while exceeding the speed limit, the red light comes on. It is a kind of punishment for such a driver.”
Moreover, traffic is regulated smoothly here using cameras. If traffic volume is higher, the green light for cars stays on longer, and so on. All of this is integrated with buttons for pedestrians. The investment cost more than PLN 92,000. The money came entirely from the budget of the City of Bolesławiec.
“I think that in the future similar traffic lights should be installed on all roads entering Bolesławiec,” the mayor added. “Councillors have already asked me about this.”
We will return to this topic.
