A tragic accident occurred after 4:00 a.m. near the Kutuzov cemetery. Two passenger cars—a Ford Scorpio and an Opel Omega—were involved in a head-on collision. One person died and six were taken to hospital. The cars came from Lubań and Zgorzelec.
On New Year's Eve, police frequently intervened in cases involving disturbances of the nighttime quiet—people complained about loud celebrations and firecracker explosions. Police officers recorded no more serious incidents. The ambulance service responded 23 times, but for typical illnesses. There were no calls related to New Year's Eve.
