– A sexual act is to be presented live on stage. I want to say that there will be no pornography in Polish theatres financed with public money. I am open to fringe theatres and various explorations, but this kind of thing cannot happen – the new Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Piotr Gliński, said on “Trójka”.
The Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, headed by Cezary Przybylski, does not, however, intend to interfere in any way with freedom of artistic expression.
– The Self-Government of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship has never interfered with freedom of artistic expression in projects prepared by cultural institutions subordinate to it. [...] Given the legal status of the self-government in relation to cultural institutions, explicitly defined by the legislature, we see no possibility of taking effective and lawful action in the manner suggested – this was the response to the ministry’s demands from Dominik Kłosowski, deputy director of the Department of Social Affairs of the Marshal’s Office.
Pornographic actors are to appear in the play based on the work of Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek. Catholic groups have announced protests.
