Jan Bancewicz was born in 1933 in Saint-Denis, France. In 1955, he graduated from the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Wrocław. For many years, he was associated with Jelenia Góra. He worked there as a graphic artist at industrial plants and later as a visual arts instructor at cultural centres, actively participating in the cultural life of the city.

In 1986, he moved to Przejęsław (Osiecznica commune), where in 1998 he and his wife, Teresa Bancewicz, organised a private gallery called “Izba Rękodzieła”. It presents the artistic output of the Bancewicz family: paintings, sculptures, graphic works and decorative textiles; an “antique corner” was also prepared.

Jan Bancewicz’s artworks were exhibited at more than 30 group and solo exhibitions. He took part in reviews of non-professional art and competitions, achieving leading positions and receiving distinctions. His works are held in private collections in Poland and abroad—in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Austria, Italy, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland.
We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
