On Monday at 5 p.m., young people outstanding in their studies, sport and artistic activities received special scholarships from Mayor Rafał Gronicz. Monday’s ceremony was yet another occasion on which the awards were presented, which means nothing more and nothing less than that there are so many talented young people in our city that our modest yet venerable MDK walls could not accommodate them all during a single ceremony. Glory to them! Not to the walls—to the top students!
Monday also means a film lesson at the Poza Nova cinema as part of the New Horizons Film Education project, as well as an evening screening of the film “Life on Credit”, directed by Baldvin Zophoníasson, which had its world premiere a few days ago. It is a two-hour drama about 24-year-old Eik, a kindergarten teacher who is raising her eight-year-old daughter alone. Under the guise of working as a waitress, she often uses her charms to serve all those willing to pay for them. Although the film seems dramatic at times, it also contains moments full of humour. Perhaps that is what makes it so interesting. The reel starts rolling at 6:30 p.m. “Life on Credit” can be seen here through Wednesday inclusive. Tickets cost PLN 11.
Tuesday will be a session day. At noon, councillors of the Zgorzelec City Council will meet to discuss matters important—and most important—for the city. On Tuesday, the auditorium will also be taken over by Teatr Moich Marzeń from Chorzów, which has invited children from Zgorzelec schools to its performances. Please note that the shows are being performed by arrangement, meaning they are not open to everyone interested.
On Wednesday, students of the Transborder University of the Third Age will meet here. The lecture, traditionally beginning at 11 a.m., will this time be delivered by Beata Zygmuntowicz. She will talk about the Theatre of the Zgorzelec Region. And in the evening, remember, it’s cinema time!
On Thursday, in addition to mgr inż. Mirosław Sadowski from the University of Zielona Góra taking senior students into the world of statistics during a workshop (classes begin at 11 a.m.), the afternoon will bring the opening of a competition exhibition prepared by the Förderverein Kulturstadt Görlitz-Zgorzelec e.V. association. This year, the association’s “On the Move” photography competition was devoted to the theme of INDUSTRY. The submitted photographs can be viewed here until 11 November. And when you drop by to see them, be sure to visit our gallery as well, where the “70 Years of Zgorzelec” exhibition has been on display since last Friday. It can be admired until 22 November.
To round off this week, we also have a warm invitation to Friday’s performance opening the Zgorzelec Theatre Meetings. It will be the play “My Wife’s Husband”, directed by Henryk Adamek, starring two men very well known in our city, Jacek Grondowy and Piotr Konieczyński. Tickets cost PLN 20, but unfortunately there are not many left.
