The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Administration and Digitization Stanisław Huskowski, Lower Silesian Voivode Tomasz Smolarz and Legnica Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski.

The meeting brought together several dozen representatives of county, city and municipal crisis management centres. Stanisław Huskowski presented the Regional Warning System, developed by the ministry.

“The RWS has been operating for three months now,” the deputy minister said. “It provides information about, among other things, meteorological, accidental, road, infrastructure and epidemiological threats endangering residents’ lives and health. It uses television broadcasts (various public television channels), voivodeship office websites and widely available free applications for mobile devices. The deputy minister stressed that all mobile network operators had been brought into the cooperation. As a result, in the event of particularly sudden and dangerous threats, it will be possible to warn residents of a specific area by text message. It is the first warning system of its kind in the world.

Voivode Tomasz Smolarz and his colleagues presented the already existing Lower Silesian Voivodeship Warning, Alert and Information System, together with prospects for its development in the coming years. It was created at a cost of approximately PLN 3.5 million. It will be integrated with the ministerial system. Residents of the region can access information about all kinds of threats by visiting the Lower Silesian Information Portal.

Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski stressed the great importance to city residents of the text-message warning and information system, which has been operating in Legnica for nearly six years. He also announced efforts to promote the systems presented at the meeting among Legnica residents.
