In good weather, tens of thousands of birds cross them every day. Tits, bramblings, crossbills, jays, chaffinches and pipits cross the passes in entire flocks. Birds of prey, such as goshawks and kestrels, also appear. Ravens can also be seen, and sometimes wood pigeons.
Artur Pałucki from Karkonosze National Park says that the autumn migrations are very spectacular, although most of the birds crossing the passes are small passerines. The flights can easily be observed, for example, in the area of Mokra Pass. All you need is a pair of binoculars. The lucky ones may even see very rare peregrine falcons, several pairs of which have chosen the Karkonosze Mountains as their nesting site.
