– Most often, these were unmetered water connections in utility rooms and boiler rooms. As promised, people who reported to us will not have to pay the official penalty of PLN 5,000. However, they will receive a bill for the water used, the amount of which will be calculated in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 14 January 2002 on determining average water consumption standards – informs Halina Zbroińska, acting director of ZKGiM in Rudna municipality.

Systematic inspections of all meters and connections to the water supply network throughout the municipality have begun. The inspections are related to cases of illegal water use detected recently. – If illegal water use is found, criminal proceedings will be initiated against those individuals. Rudna subsidizes the costs of supplying water to residents and disposing of wastewater from the municipal budget. Currently, residents pay PLN 3.09 for 1 m³ of water. To maintain such low prices, we must all work together to care for the common good that water represents. Everyone’s involvement is needed to minimize illegal water use. The scale of using water without a contract and discharging wastewater without a contract affects the amount of water and wastewater charges paid by all customers – emphasizes Halina Zbroińska.

We remind you that anyone who draws water from water supply facilities without first concluding an agreement with the water supplier, draws water using deliberately damaged water meters, or bypasses them altogether, faces a fine of PLN 5,000. Illegally discharging wastewater into sewerage facilities without first concluding an agreement is a criminal offense punishable by restriction of liberty or a fine of up to PLN 10,000. In addition to imposing a penalty, the adjudicating authority may also order payment of a surcharge to the water and wastewater company amounting to PLN 1,000 for each month in which water was taken from water supply facilities or wastewater was discharged into those facilities without a contract.
