The renovations of the tenement houses result from grants awarded for conservation work on historic buildings entered in the register of monuments. The renovations are being carried out as part of the “New Old Town” programme, adopted by the Bolesławiec City Council in 2006. One stage of the programme involves renovating the tenement houses around the market square; the scope of work has been divided into two parts: renovation of the roof structure and roofing, and renovation of the façades, stone details and architectural details, as well as filling in defects. The completion by the residents’ association of the renovation of the roof structure and roofing is a prerequisite for receiving funding for the façade renovation.

It is worth recalling that this year grants for the renovation of façades, including the replacement of windows and doors in the common areas of the tenement houses, were awarded to eight residents’ associations. The associations are located at the following streets:

  • Rynek 27
  • B. Prusa 16/18
  • B. Prusa 12/13
  • B. Prusa 10/11
  • B. Prusa 8/9
  • B. Prusa 6/7
  • Kościelnej 4/5
  • Armii Krajowej 4.

A grant for conservation work was also awarded to one parish. The Roman Catholic Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas on Kościelna Street received funding for the project “Protection from destruction and making available to European society the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas in Bolesławiec – a cultural heritage site of high importance for the borderland of Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany”.

This year’s city budget allocated PLN 1,500,000 to co-finance conservation, restoration and construction work on historic buildings entered in the register of monuments.
