On 16 September this year, the duty officer at the Police Station in Bogatynia received a report of the theft of a barcode scanner worth over PLN 1,200 from a store.
As police officers established, the perpetrator took advantage of the employee briefly leaving the device unattended, took it, and quickly left the store.
The very next day, the police officers handling the case identified a suspect in the theft. He turned out to be a 30-year-old resident of Bogatynia. As he told the police officers who arrested him, he stole the scanner because he hoped to sell it quickly. However, he failed to find a buyer and threw the device away.
The man was taken into police custody. He faces up to 5 years in prison.
