In the Bogatynia municipality, farmers also gave thanks for the gifts of the land. On Saturday, September 12, the annual Municipal Harvest Festival was held at the Multifunctional Tri-Border Center. The celebration began with a Mass at the chapel in Markocice, after which the harvest festival stewards presented a loaf of bread baked from this year’s grain to the host—the mayor, Andrzej Grzmielewicz—.

As is traditional in the municipality, before the official start of the Harvest Festival, an exhibition was held of harvest wreaths brought by representatives of the individual village councils, as well as produce from fields, orchards, and gardens, which competed in a contest.

The jury found that all of them impressed with their beauty and precision of workmanship; however, the most beautiful harvest wreath was made by the Kopaczów village council. Saturday’s victory was yet another distinction for the Kopaczów wreath. It had previously been judged the best in the county, which earned it a place in the regional competition, where it took an honorable second place.

The jury also awarded prizes in the competition for produce from fields, orchards, and gardens. Thus, first place went to Ms. Sylwia Jajuga for a “giant kohlrabi,” second place to Ms. Marta Chorągwicka for an “unusual red onion,” and third place to Ms. Elżbieta Bortnik for a “family of cucumbers.”

Another pleasant highlight of the harvest celebrations was honoring those who work very hard throughout the year to produce such fruitful harvests. Many farmers from the City and Municipality of Bogatynia received thanks and congratulations from Mayor Andrzej Grzmielewicz.

The 2015 Municipal Harvest Festival ended with everyone celebrating until dawn to the accompaniment of a band that encouraged people to join in the fun while playing its greatest hits.
