As we read on the website of the “Lower Silesia” SZS

A school’s competition result is the sum of the points earned for the 10 highest places achieved in events included in the Lower Silesian School Youth Games, the Lower Silesian Middle School Youth Games and the Lower Silesian High School Youth Games. Results achieved in competitions at the municipal and county levels, as well as in Lower Silesian finals, are included in the competition standings.

“The School Sports Association ‘Lower Silesia’ creates such a school ranking every year,” says Adrian Bernacki, a physical education teacher at Municipal School Complex No. 2, which includes Municipal Gimnazjum No. 1. “We have been moving up this ranking for four years.”

Five years ago, the school ranked 99th, then placed in the top sixty and top forty, before reaching 8th place two years ago—and now... second. What is more, in this year’s ranking, the Bolesławiec Gimnazjum was beaten by a sports school, namely Lubin’s “number two.”

“Last year we really had a great group of athletes: we won the Lower Silesian championship in basketball and the silver medal in athletics,” says A. Bernacki. “Although there are no longer sports classes at the school, this success is partly due to students who were still receiving more physical education classes.”

Moreover, the teachers at MZS No. 2 include coaches in football, athletics and basketball; the school’s students take part in club competitions. “Thanks to this work and the commitment of the children and young people—for this is primarily their success—we managed to achieve such a high place in the ranking,” emphasizes Adrian Bernacki.
