The conference opens a series of events preceding and accompanying the ceremony unveiling the monument to the Exiles to Siberia, scheduled for September 17 (12:00 p.m.) at Siberians’ Square in Legnica.

The conference program:

  • Lower Silesians – where did we come from and what are we like? (Juliusz Woźny, Pamięć i Przyszłość Centre)
  • Legnica Siberians (Maria Kubasik, Pamięć i Dialog Association)
  • The Activities of the Siberian Exiles Association in Legnica (Wanda Puchała, Legnica Branch of the Siberian Exiles Association)
  • Siberian exiles through the eyes of the younger generation (Magdalena Biernat and students of ZSO No. 3 in Legnica)
  • The Idea for the Monument Commemorating Polish Exiles to Siberia (Grzegorz Niemyjski, the monument’s designer).

During the conference, Maria Kubasik’s book “Legnica Siberians” will be presented for the first time. The publication contains extensive factual documentation, many unique photographs and accounts. Invited guests will also take part in the discussion.
