On Wednesday, MP Bogdan Zdrojewski appeared in Bolesławiec’s market square alongside the mayor of Jawor, Emilian Bera, who is also running for the European Parliament from the Civic Coalition.
The candidates were accompanied by MP Michał Jaros – head of PO’s Lower Silesian structures – and Karol Stasik – chairman of PO in Bolesławiec County – as well as PO councillors, members and supporters.
The conference was organized in connection with the approaching European Parliament elections. Civic Coalition politicians appealed to people to vote. In their view, these elections will determine above all Poland’s security and its position in the European Union.
We asked MP Bogdan Zdrojewski what he would work on if he managed to get elected to the European Parliament. Here is what he replied:
In my assessment, three areas are crucial. The first is security, meaning defence policy. Previously, I participated in important projects related to the Galileo and Copernicus satellite systems. I will probably continue this work, because they are also used to improve the protection of our borders.
The second issue is energy and energy security, which are crucial. We must remember that the outstanding—let me emphasize, outstanding—MEP Jerzy Buzek, who dealt with this issue, decided to end his work in the European Parliament. This gap needs to be properly filled.
And the third area, which is particularly close to me, is of course cultural heritage. This includes the media, copyright, and directives that, in short, strengthen those who are creative and who build Polish identity—and I also want to fight for this. The Erasmus programme is also part of this group, dedicated to young people but expanded to include Universities of the Third Age. So these are the three main areas that I will probably take up.
