Police officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra arrested a 25-year-old resident of Piechowice suspected of possessing a significant quantity of drugs, failing to stop for a traffic check, and driving without a licence and in breach of a court-ordered driving ban.
On 7 September this year, at around 10:35 p.m., police officers in Jelenia Góra, on Spółdzielcza Street, noticed a motorcyclist who accelerated sharply when he saw them. They decided to stop him for a traffic check and find out what had prompted such behaviour. They signalled for him to stop, but the rider did not respond. On the contrary, he accelerated and began to flee.
During the escape, while near the police car, he struck its side, causing the motorcycle to overturn. The man abandoned it and began fleeing on foot.
The officers arrested him after a short pursuit. The man was highly aggressive, attempted to fight and kicked. After a brief struggle, he was subdued and arrested.
It turned out that the motorcycle ridden by the 25-year-old had registration plates belonging to another vehicle and did not have a valid technical inspection or insurance. In addition, the rider most likely had a driving ban. He was also probably riding under the influence of drugs; blood was collected from him for testing.
Importantly, the 25-year-old possessed a significant quantity of drugs. Officers secured marijuana and amphetamine, from which nearly 3,000 retail doses could have been prepared.
The 25-year-old faces up to 10 years in prison.
