Independence Roundabout, where the traffic lights have been switched off, is impassable both for private drivers and MPK buses. Passengers can use the same stops, but there have been temporary changes to the lines serving them. Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne is providing passengers with detailed information about the changes.

All the so-called right-turn lanes surrounding Independence Roundabout remain open to traffic. Work is currently focused on the roadways and pavements around the roundabout’s central island. The next step will be milling the asphalt.

The temporary roundabout at the intersection of Sikorskiego and Sudecka streets was built from overlays placed on the roadway, with an island made of so-called separators installed on them. It is crucial for traffic organization, including for safety reasons. Cars, even oversized vehicles, can make U-turns in a single traffic lane. This solution limits vehicle speeds on Sikorskiego Street.

Once work at Independence Roundabout is completed, it will be reopened and reconstruction of Sikorskiego Street will begin on the section from the roundabout to the intersection with Iwaszkiewicza Street. All carriageways on the renovated section of Sikorskiego Street will be closed during this period. A detour will be marked via Sudecka Street.

A modern and very important solution for Piekary’s transport network will be the construction of a turbo roundabout at the intersection of Sikorskiego and Iwaszkiewicza streets. An additional traffic lane will be created for vehicles turning right from Sikorskiego Street into Iwaszkiewicza Street. The road, pavement and cycle-path structures will be replaced.

As part of this project, a new bus stop will be built just beyond the intersection of Sikorskiego and Iwaszkiewicza streets, in the direction of Wrocławska Street. Meanwhile, the bus bay on Sikorskiego Street, opposite the church, will undergo a thorough modernization. The stop on Sikorskiego Street before the intersection with Wrocławska Street will be removed.

Let us recall that the tender for the reconstruction of Sikorskiego Street—from Independence Roundabout to Iwaszkiewicza Street—was won by Berger Bau Polska. It offered the lowest price, nearly PLN 4.2 million. It declared that it would complete the work by October 31 and provide an 84-month warranty.
