The bombs are located in the bed of the Bóbr River in Mierzwin, near Bolesławiec. So far, 25 German bombs from World War II have been found. “There may be more,” says Sergeant Robert Onyszko, deputy commander of Bolesławiec’s Demining Patrol No. 23, in an interview with “ii.” “We will search the riverbed further.”

The bombs weigh approximately 50 kg. They are corroded because they lay in the water for a long time. They were probably abandoned here after the war.

The sappers will retrieve the unexploded ordnance from the riverbed, load it onto vehicles and transport it—under police escort—to the training ground in Świętoszów. “We will do all of this safely, carefully and slowly,” assures Sergeant R. Onyszko.

Attention!

The Demining Patrol warns: if we find an object that looks like unexploded ordnance or a dud, under no circumstances should we touch it; we should remember where it is and report it to police officers or a forester.
