From Friday through the weekend, residents and visitors can enjoy a wealth of attractions: an artistic programme on two stages, exhibitions, open-air performances, an animation town and a flea market. For five days, nearly 100 ceramic exhibitors from Bolesławiec and the surrounding area, as well as from Poland and abroad—including the Czech Republic, Hungary and Ukraine—are presenting their products in wooden stalls in the Market Square. Clay mugs, plates, pots and butter dishes, as well as figurines, clocks and original jewellery—all this and many other clay products can be purchased at the fair from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A spectacular open-air kiln created by Mateusz Grobelny is being built in the green area. Inside the structure known as “Tree of Fire,” a ceramic sculpture—a 4-metre-high tree—is being created. Ultimately, the entire structure will be 6 metres high and is being built on a cube-shaped base.
“Three walls are movable. On Saturday after 11:00 p.m., during the firing climax, two of them will open ‘like a wardrobe’, while the third, divided horizontally, will open upwards and downwards. This will be a unique opportunity to see the sculpture during firing, heated to 1,200 °C. The sculpture is inspired by a tree whose trunk and branches are made of clay and metal, while its crown is formed by fire and smoke,” says the kiln’s creator, Mateusz Grobelny.
During the event, the Tourist and Cultural Information Point operates at BOK-MCC/Ceramics Shop and in the Market Square (a wooden stall on the green square), where full information about this year’s event programme can be obtained.
