At the Film Discussion Club on July 13: “Clowns”: Oskar, Max and Victor were at the height of their popularity during the communist era. Their antics amused the young and quite a few older people, and their sense of humor appealed to most of the audience. Or so it seemed to them. Unfortunately, their career collapsed as a result of an idiotic argument. The men let their pride get the better of them and turned away from one another, squandering their chance for further success. During the thirty years that have passed since the incident, communism has even fallen, but their conflict remains strong. But when, in the now-free Czech Republic, their paths cross again, the men begin to recall what their lives were like during their period of prosperity. Faced with the dilemma of whether to live in poverty while continuing to hold their noses in the air, or to conquer the entertainment industry once again by putting old grievances behind them, they choose the latter.
