A few introductory words:
- Fantasy is a field that includes literature and is characterized by considerable freedom in constructing the fictional world and its characters.
- Fantasy genres: including science fiction, also known in English as science fiction (set mainly in the future), fantasy (usually set in an alternative past, or possibly the present, filled with beings from mythology and folklore), and horror (the time period may vary—the unifying feature is the presence of a being, event, or any other form of threat to the life of the protagonist, other characters, or even all humanity, with this threat being unreal from the perspective of reality)
- Role-playing game—in other words, RPG, from the English role-playing game, sometimes called an imagination game, colloquially an RPG or roleplay). It is a social game based on narration in which players (from one to several) take on the roles of fictional characters. The entire game usually takes place in a fictional world that exists only in the players’ imaginations. Its general aim is to play according to a planned scenario and achieve conventionally defined or individual goals while following a selected set of rules known as the game mechanics.
The Municipal Public Library therefore invites every Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. everyone interested in playing RPGs—both players and GMs (Game Masters), beginners and advanced players over the age of 13. Sign-ups are available in room 28.
The Library has the adventure board game The Witcher, four decks of Magic The Gathering cards (ready to play), and several rulebooks for various RPG systems, as well as a rich collection of fiction and popular-science literature in the fantasy and science-fiction genres.
The board game can be played by 2–4 players, while each card game requires a minimum of 2 participants.
You can come with your party and GM and play your own sessions. There will also be an opportunity to create new parties—of up to 5 people.
“Come, play, conquer, fight, travel through a land full of mysteries, and tell a different story every time. Feel the true spirit of RPGs. Set out on a fascinating journey deep into your imagination!” encourage the staff of the Municipal Public Library in Bolesławiec.
