Foreign Languages Day was divided into three parts. The first item on the programme was a quiz testing knowledge of English- and German-speaking countries. In the team competition, the contestants had to demonstrate their knowledge of the names of music stars, characteristic places, English and German proverbs, and the traditional cuisine of Great Britain, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Canada and Austria. Class III b won the competition, class III a came second, and class I b took third place.
The next stage of the celebration was the presentation of stands. Each class presented a country drawn beforehand and a theme for its stand. Germany, Greece, the United States, Spain, Italy and France were showcased. The students prepared delicious culinary surprises: Italian pizza, spaghetti and tiramisu for dessert were served on the tables. There was also olive oil from Greece and feta cheese. The Americans treated us to their famous pancakes.
The students also presented famous personalities. Marilyn Monroe, Beyonce, Paris Hilton and many others made an appearance. There was a flamenco dance performance and a presentation of German fashion, and the Bavarians also had fun.
The final stage of the Foreign Languages Day celebrations was the Foreign-Language Song Festival. The students prepared selected songs in foreign languages. Each class was tasked with making a music video for its song. Class IIIA took first place, class IB came second, and class IIb came third.
In the soloists’ category, first place was won by Julia Pranić from class IB.
At the end of the festival, the female foreign-language teachers prepared a surprise for their students. It was a short music video and a musical performance. The teachers were rewarded with tremendous applause. The event has become a permanent fixture in the school calendar and grows increasingly popular among the local community each year.
The organisers of the event were: Iwona Orawiec, Katarzyna Olkuska and Agnieszka Mikiciuk.
