The Board of the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation decided to award funding of 13,000 zł for organizing the 15th South Slavic Culture Festival. The Foundation supports initiatives in four areas: culture and tradition, sport and recreation, science and education, and health and safety. It was established in 2003, naturally continuing the tradition of many years of socially oriented activity by its founder, KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., a global producer of, among other things, copper and silver, with more than 50 years of experience.
This year’s South Slavic Culture Festival will take place as part of Bolesławiec Days 2015 on Saturday, 20 June. That day, a re-emigrants’ village will be set up in Bolesławiec Market Square, inhabited by rural women’s circles and associations. City residents and visitors will have the opportunity to try Balkan cuisine specialities: traditional pita with fillings (spicy and savoury), goulash soup and pepper soup. Once again, there will be a culinary competition for “good pita” and a “Balkan cauldron”.
The Association of Re-emigrants from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends will present the exhibition “Poles on Bosnian Soil”. In the afternoon, a colourful parade of folk ensembles will take place, followed by the official opening of the festival by the Mayor of Bolesławiec, Piotr Roman. During the opening, we will dance the Kolo together—a traditional folk dance popular in the Balkans.
On stage, local folk ensembles and invited guests will present the folklore of the South Slavic countries—dances, music and singing. The guests include two ensembles from Croatia: Puhački Orkestar Brass Band DVD Valpovo, one of the oldest brass bands in the Republic of Croatia, established in 1890, and the popular vocal and instrumental group Jovalius Bend from Valpovo.
