This is a film adaptation of the hugely popular Norwegian book about the adventures of Svein and his rat, Halvorsen. This action-packed adventure story shows that it is worth relying on friends for help and facing troubles, problems and prejudices together with them—even when they concern only… a rat.
Seven-year-old Svein and the rat Halvorsen are inseparable. The boy wants his pet to take part in the annual competition for domestic animals. However, not everyone is convinced by the idea. They claim that an ordinary rat should not compete with a dog or a cat. As if that were not enough, Halvorsen causes problems constantly—at least that is how Svein’s parents see it. The rat keeps escaping and getting into mischief, putting the whole family on alert. The situation becomes even more complicated when panic breaks out at Svein’s school over suspicions of a rat invasion. Will the boy manage to convince everyone that Halvorsen is not dangerous and deserves to take part in the competition? His classmates will come to his aid.
We are presenting the film as part of our regular “Morning Encore” series. This school year, together with Stowarzyszenie Nowe Horyzonty, we are showcasing Norwegian cinema. “Kids on the Horizon” is the slogan of the campaign accompanying all the activities of Stowarzyszenie Nowe Horyzonty aimed at the youngest viewers, their parents and guardians. Its purpose is to present good, unconventional films for the youngest audiences and encourage family trips to the cinema, shared experiences and enjoyment of films. The campaign is supported by culture and media figures who are parents themselves: Katarzyna Bonda, Novika, Maja Ostaszewska, Katarzyna Stoparczyk and Adam Woronowicz.
