Two years ago, we wrote that during an organizational and informational meeting for students of the Bolesławiec University of the Third Age, Mayor Piotr Roman mentioned that the municipal park on Tyrankiewiczów Street had never officially been named after Ludwik Waryński. “We went through all the documents; it was never Waryński Park,” he emphasized. He added that city officials currently refer to the location as “the park that was never named after Ludwik Waryński” (an activist and ideologue of the Polish socialist movement).
The subject returned during a session of the Bolesławiec City Council held on March 25 this year. The mayor spoke about the renovation of the paths in the park on Tyrankiewiczów Street. He again emphasized: “It was never Waryński Park. Perhaps older residents remember why this park is colloquially called that. In fact, we could announce a competition, because it is an interesting sociological and historical issue.”
As Piotr Roman emphasized, the prize in the competition will be an old 100-zloty banknote in a frame (owned by secretary Jerzy Zieliński). Why this particular banknote? Because it features... Ludwik Waryński.
Although the information given during the session was intended as a joke, the competition will nevertheless take place. We will provide details after Easter.
