Councillors from Unia Wolności and independents decided on the election of Paweł Wróblewski. There are 36 councillors in the regional assembly, so the candidate had to receive at least 19 votes.
The previous executive board and Marshal Henryk Gołębiewski (SLD) were dismissed on 1 June. Since then, several attempts have been made to appoint a new person to this position. The reasons for this inability may be found in the political diversity of the regional assembly and its executive board.
It is characteristic that in this case the traditional division between the left and the right became apparent. SLD proposed the previously dismissed Henryk Gołębiewski for the position of marshal, while the right was represented by Paweł Wróblewski, who came from PiS.
