The city spent many years preparing by creating specific planning documents and identifying residents’ needs. Intensive efforts to obtain external funding significantly increased the city’s budget, ultimately making it possible to carry out investments that substantially improved residents’ living standards.

– I would like to remind you that the result of using European Union funds was avoiding a recession in the city during the crisis years, as the city was the largest investor at that time, also contributing to the development of the private sector. As a result, this made it possible to catch up on civilizational, development and infrastructure backlogs – informs Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman.

Over the past decade, the municipal government has invested a total of nearly half a billion zlotys in Bolesławiec, including in infrastructure alone—that is, roads, public buildings, service institutions, residential buildings and public transport.

These investments include, among other things, the construction of more than 500,000 sq m of roads and pavements, nearly 800 new parking spaces, the installation of more than 1,200 new lighting points and the laying of approximately 90,000 metres of new water and sewer pipes—in other words, preparing land for investment.

Preparing new industrial areas and establishing an economic zone attracted investors to the city, resulting in the construction of new plants and the lowest unemployment rate in the city’s history. Meanwhile, preparing new land for residential construction has led to a significant increase in the construction of detached houses by individual investors, as well as the construction of buildings by developers for sale or rent.

The scale of these investments comes as quite a surprise to a casual resident of Bolesławiec who, while walking around the city, does not limit themselves to the centre. A walk through newly emerging housing estates often ends with the observation that new houses are appearing in Bolesławiec like mushrooms after rain. “Bolesławiec Under Construction” is both a surprise and an expression of admiration for the activity of private investors.
