More than 16 barrels were found in a forest near Świętoszów. The barrels are located in two places. One of these places is near the Kwisa River. The barrels had been buried in the ground. They were discovered during the demining of a former Soviet military training ground. The barrels bear Russian-language warnings about the danger of loss of life.
Firefighters from a chemical group from Legnica, firefighters from Bolesławiec, voivodeship environmental protection inspectors and a representative of Bolesławiec County are working at the site.

It is not yet known what substance is inside the barrels. Yesterday, Bolesławiec County Governor Dariusz Kwaśniewski convened a meeting of the County Crisis Management Team on the matter. The governor assures that the area where the barrels were found has been secured and is being guarded by the forest service. Dariusz Kwaśniewski also asked the Lower Silesian Voivode to send services capable of dealing with the dangerous find. This will probably be a subunit from a specialized chemical unit. Such units are stationed in Piotrków Trybunalski and Warsaw, among other places.
