No application needs to be submitted regarding the indexation of pensions and disability benefits; it is carried out automatically.
In 2015, benefit indexation is carried out by ZUS using a mixed percentage-and-amount formula. The indexation from 1 March consists in increasing the benefit amount, at the level applicable on 28 February, by the indexation rate, but by no less than PLN 36. The indexation rate is determined in accordance with Article 89 of the Act of 17 December 1998 on pensions and disability benefits from the Social Insurance Fund (Journal of Laws 2013, item 1440, as amended) and is 100.68% this year.
How is the indexation calculated?
First, the retirement or disability benefit amount applicable on 28 February is multiplied by the indexation rate. If the resulting increase in the benefit amount is lower than the indexation amount specified or guaranteed in the relevant act, the indexation amount is added to the benefit amount before indexation.
The indexation amounts specified or guaranteed by the Act of 23 October 2014 amending the Act on pensions and disability benefits from the Social Insurance Fund and certain other acts (Journal of Laws 2014, item 1682) are as follows:
- for a retirement pension, survivors' pension, or disability pension for persons declared completely incapable of work – PLN 36
- for a disability pension for partial incapacity for work – PLN 27
- for a partial retirement pension – PLN 18.
