This tragic incident occurred on 21 January 2015 in Zgorzelec. At around 1:00 p.m., the duty officer at the local County Police Headquarters was notified by telephone by the perpetrator, who said that he had “probably killed someone”.
Police officers and paramedics who arrived at the scene found the bloodied body of Łukasz M.’s mother, Violetta M., in the apartment where he lived with her. The victim was lying in the kitchen, while Łukasz M. was lying on a bed in the room.
M. told police officers that he had heard “some voice” ordering him to kill his mother. He added that there was nobody else in the apartment and that he had stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife, then later attempted to take his own life.
During the prosecutor’s examination of the crime scene, a kitchen knife approximately 13.5 cm long was secured near the victim’s body. Stab wounds to the woman’s chest and neck were found, while the son also had stab wounds to his chest and abdomen. He was taken to hospital.
Due to Łukasz M.’s health condition, the prosecutor charged him with murder and questioned him as a suspect only on 30 January.
At the investigators’ request, the court remanded M. in custody for three months. The suspect will soon be examined by expert psychiatrists. The man could face life imprisonment.
