The film “A Grain of Truth” takes us to Sandomierz, where a terrible crime is committed. The body of a murdered woman, a widely liked social activist, is left naked in a public place. The way she was killed brings to mind a ritual murder. The local law enforcement officers, led by Teodor Szacki (Robert Więckiewicz), a former star of the capital’s prosecutor’s office, will have to solve not only the criminal mystery but also face the hysterical public opinion. The film has everything that interests me in cinema: an important subject, an absorbing intrigue, a remarkable and unconventional protagonist, and an excellent structure, says the film’s director, Borys Lankosz.
In “Carte Blanche”, Kacper (Andrzej Chyra), a history teacher at a high school beloved by his students, gradually begins to lose his sight. The medical diagnosis leaves no room for doubt. Due to a genetic condition, the man faces permanent blindness. Initially devastated, he ultimately decides to hide his health problems from the outside world in order to keep his job and see his students through their final exams. Maciej Białek, whose story inspired the film’s creators, is a history teacher at the 8th High School in Lublin. He hid his illness for many years. Despite losing his sight, he continued teaching at the school for another 15 years. Passing knowledge on to young people is his passion. Maciej Białek’s former and current students consider him an exceptionally interesting and charismatic person. His story is an example of how life brings us various experiences, but it is up to us who we are and whether we are happy.
