As reported by brig. Andrzej Szymański of the Legnica fire service, the fire was noticed at around 8 a.m. Eight fire service units fought it. An apartment on the second floor was destroyed. The floor below was flooded with water.
Due to heavy smoke, firefighters evacuated three residents from the neighboring tenement house. One of them was taken to hospital for observation after an elevated concentration of carbon monoxide was found in their blood.
It is not yet known what caused the fire. It may have been a fire started accidentally in the attic that spread through the ceiling to the apartment on the second floor.
The tenement house where the fire broke out is owned by the municipality. According to Ryszard Lisiecki, deputy director of the Housing Management Board, the residents will receive the necessary assistance.
