Participants in Tuesday’s athletics meeting will be third- and fourth-grade pupils from Zgorzelec primary schools, where a pilot program promoting athletics among children and young people, Kids Athletics – Athletics for Everyone, has been running since November. Zgorzelec is the smallest of the centers invited to participate in the project, recognizing in this way the commitment, skills and successes of our young athletes, as well as the achievements of the coaching staff. Surprises await the participants in the interschool athletics competition!
About the program
“Athletics as a Sport for Everyone” is an innovative program created by athletics specialists, managers and coaches. On the one hand, its aim is to popularize athletics among children and young people; on the other, to improve the qualifications of teachers and coaches in one of the oldest sports disciplines. The program, which has been operating in Poland since September, is part of the unique worldwide athletics project IAAF Kids’ Athletics, implemented since 2005. It has already reached more than 1.5 million children in over 160 countries around the world! In April, the Polish Athletics Association signed an agreement with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) on cooperation in implementing the program in Poland.
Zgorzelec is the first city in Lower Silesia and one of the first in Poland to sign an agreement to implement the pilot “Athletics as a Sport for Everyone” program. In mid-November, mayor Rafał Gronicz signed an agreement on cooperation between the city and the Polish Athletics Association.
