His songs have been sung for years by Poland’s finest vocalists—and, along with them, by the entire country. Without him, Edyta Geppert would not have made such a magnificent debut with the song “Jaka róża, taki cierń”, Grażyna Łobaszewska and Staszek Sojka would not have revealed to us that “Czas nas uczy pogody”, and Ryszard Rynkowski would not have urged us to “Wypili za błędy”.

Edyta Górniak would not have achieved such spectacular success at the Eurovision Song Contest with her song “To nie ja”, Andrzej Zaucha would not have enchanted us with his “C’est la vie”, and Maryla Rodowicz would not have told us that there are “Łatwopalni” among us. Nor would there have been Kombi’s most popular hits or “Dyskoteka Pana Jacka”, which raised an entire generation of young people. We are speaking of the outstanding lyricist Jacek Cygan.

His book “Życie jest piosenką” is a personal, sentimental journey into the past. With grace and humor, the author describes how his best lyrics came into being, creating engaging portraits of Poland’s most popular artists. Together, these stories form a fascinating picture of a long era in Polish music.

During the author’s evening in the beautiful interiors of the Art Nouveau Villa Viking, in addition to excerpts from the book and colorful anecdotes, we will also hear Jacek Cygan’s songs performed by Grzegorz Żak, as well as by the author himself.
