The District Prosecutor’s Office in Zgorzelec is conducting an investigation into six residents of the Zgorzelec area: Łukasz Z., Jacek D., Artur D., Robert F., Artur T. and Michał K., suspected of operating in an organized criminal group that concealed in Poland cars stolen in Germany.
Investigators established that between September 12 and October 31 this year, the perpetrators hid seven cars in several garages in Sieniawka (Bogatynia municipality): two BMWs worth no less than €20,000 each and five Audi A4 vehicles worth between €20,000 and €35,000, as well as a Dulim motorcycle worth at least €1,000.
On October 31, Zgorzelec police officers found Audi and BMW car keys on Robert F. and Artur D. during their arrest. The detainees were unable to explain where they had obtained them.
Garage keys were also found on one of them; the garage contained two BMWs and one Audi. It turned out that all the cars had been stolen.
In addition, police officers found 0.41 g of methamphetamine and 3.19 g of marijuana on one of the suspects.
The case is developing and has multiple strands. Investigators’ findings indicate that some members of the criminal group also dealt in methamphetamine.
Activities aimed at arresting the group’s leader, Łukasz Z., and its remaining members are ongoing.
The detainees have been placed in temporary custody for three months. They face up to 10 years in prison.
