The athletes of Legnica’s Wankan Sports Club performed very well in the competition, setting six club records. Kornelia Fiedkiewicz performed brilliantly, setting as many as two records, Kornelia Fiedkiewicz, and was named the competition’s best female swimmer. Meanwhile, Kamil Nowak and Karolina Ciesiul each set one club record.

The most valuable result of the competition was Kornelia Fiedkiewicz’s time in the 50-metre freestyle: 0:27.95 s. It is currently the best result in Poland among swimmers born in 2001.

For the first time in history, young swimmers from Legnica reached the podium at such a prestigious competition. “We congratulate them and are delighted with these successes,” said Zbigniew Rutka, deputy head for sport of the Department of Education, Culture and Sport of the Municipal Office. “The Marek Petrusewicz Swimming Competition is highly regarded in national competitive swimming, which makes the successes of the swimmers from Legnica all the more significant.”

They confirm the effectiveness of the club’s and coaches’ efforts, supported organizationally and financially by the city. Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski has for years pursued a policy of supporting the development of physical culture, including by enabling year-round free training at the modern Delfinek swimming pool at Primary School No. 7, equipped, among other things, with an electronic timekeeping system. This makes it possible to organize high-level sporting competitions and to use the facility during training.

Support also comes in the form of funding allocated for swimming training and awarded as targeted grants through open calls for applications for clubs. In addition, the most talented student-athletes receive support from their schools. In agreement with school principals, they can attend classes organized outside the standard class-and-lesson system. Such consistent action produces good results. Swimmers from Legnica are good or very good students and successfully combine training and competition participation with attending their school classes.
