Police appeal: it is essential to remember to
- when leaving for a longer period, ask a neighbor or friends to help watch over your property during your absence, as there is no better protection than a good, vigilant neighbor
- if you own a detached house, fence the property and consider getting a dog to guard your belongings while you are away
- invest in a solid front door fitted with certified locks and, where possible, a professional alarm system. If you live in a detached house, do not forget to properly secure the windows, including basement windows, as well as the garage door
- insure your home and the valuables you keep in it; in the event of theft, you will be guaranteed compensation for the damage
- if you live on the ground floor, install burglar-resistant roller shutters where possible
- if you own valuable items, photograph or mark them
- when leaving home, do not leave signs indicating that no one is present, such as a full mailbox, windows covered during the day, etc. Ask a neighbor or friends to collect mail addressed to you from the mailbox and pick up advertising leaflets from outside your door while you are away.
