– I would like to thank you and express my appreciation and deep respect for the selfless gift of life that you share with other people – President Tadeusz Krzakowski said during a meeting at the Town Hall with Legnica’s honorary blood donors.
Blood donation in our city is handled by the Legnica Field Branch of the Regional Centre for Blood Donation and Blood Treatment named after Prof. Tadeusz Dorobisz in Wrocław. Each year, it records an increase in the number of people coming forward. It is especially encouraging that more and more young people, pupils and students are among them. In 2013, the branch registered approximately 10,000 blood donors. This is an impressive result. It means that one in ten Legnica residents wants to become a blood donor. Last year, more than 8,500 people donated blood.
Among those attending the meeting was the record-holder – Stefan Lepa, who has already donated 66 litres of blood. The female record-holder is Katarzyna Kisilewicz, with more than 20 litres donated. All the guests received congratulations, thanks and commemorative gifts.
