Police officers from Jelenia Góra conducted the preventive operation “Znicz 2014” from October 31 to November 3. During this time, the main police forces were concentrated on roads near cemeteries.
Over these four days, there were 21 collisions; the most common causes were failing to maintain a safe distance between vehicles and failing to adjust speed to the road conditions.
On Sunday, November 2, at approximately 12:21 p.m., an accident occurred on Orzeszkowej Street in Jelenia Góra. Preliminary findings by the officers indicate that the 62-year-old driver of an Audi most likely failed to yield the right of way to a 62-year-old cyclist. A collision occurred. The cyclist was taken to hospital. Both participants in the incident were sober.
Furthermore, officers detained five drunk drivers. Those detained may face up to 2 years in prison.
