The ceramic bench weighs approximately 700 kilograms and will be ceremonially unveiled on Wednesday, 29 October, at 9:00 a.m. in the Market Square. BOK-MCC is announcing a photography competition featuring the ceramic bench. The first photographs can be taken on the day of the unveiling with Mają Letko Miss Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival 2014, whose presence will enhance the ceremony.
The bench refers to the ceramic traditions of our city. It will serve as a place of rest for tourists and residents, as an attraction and as a place to take a commemorative photograph. Bolesławiec Basilica, the townhouses and the fountain in the Market Square will provide an excellent backdrop for photographs.
The bench was created by Mateusz Grobelny, who works at BOK-MCC. “The bench’s colours, cobalt and white, refer to the colours used in the local ceramic industry,” says its creator. “By mixing these two colours, tiles with the colouring of water were created. The movement of water is also emphasised by the slightly cloudy structure of the surface and its irregular shape. One could speak of a flowing line and a freely bending structure. The entire composition is enhanced by transparent glaze, which gives it a shine, while the irregular shapes and sizes of the tiles symbolise the richness of the ceramics produced in our city. The object is made on a steel framework with a concrete shell and covered with tiles reflecting its form,” Grobelny adds.
