– Our city was able to access almost all available funds. As a result, this made it possible to catch up on civilizational, development and infrastructure deficits in our city – informs Bolesławiec mayor Piotr Roman. Bolesławiec in the European Union undoubtedly meant a major investment boom, for which we had been preparing for many years—not only mentally, but also by creating specific planning documents and, above all, identifying residents’ needs. External funding substantially increased the city’s budget, ultimately making it possible to carry out investments that significantly improved residents’ living standards. Avoiding a recession in the city during the crisis years was to a considerable extent the result of using EU funds, as the city was at that time the largest investor on the market.
The last decade in Bolesławiec included, among other things, the construction of more than 531,719 sq. m of roads and pavements, the creation of 763 new parking spaces, the installation of 1,202 new lighting points, the laying of 89,079 linear metres of new water and sewer pipes, and the replacement of 2,429 window units—these are just a few examples. Equipping new industrial areas and creating an economic zone attracted investors to the city, resulting in the construction of new plants and the lowest unemployment rate in its history to date. A business-friendly climate created more than 650 new jobs, mainly in the automotive industry, providing new opportunities for professional activity.
Over the last decade, the municipal government invested a total of more than PLN 485,261,551 in Bolesławiec infrastructure alone, including roads, public-use buildings, service institutions, residential buildings and transport. This amount does not include social projects, in the implementation of which the city is undoubtedly one of the leaders.
