“Louis Boutan Camera” – this is the name of a prestigious German competition for divers engaged in underwater photography and videography. This coming weekend, on October 11–12, a gala awards ceremony and the opening of the “Life Underwater 2014” exhibition, presenting the best competition photographs, will take place at the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Görlitz.

The Association of German Sport Divers (Verband Deutscher Sporttaucher – VDST) has been organizing underwater photography and video competitions for many years. The first edition took place as early as 1959. The French biologist Louis Boutan is considered a pioneer of underwater photography. The competition named after him has the status of the German underwater photography and videography championships.

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the hall of Humboldt House (Humboldthaus – Platz des 17. Juni). The introductory lecture will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Hans Fricke, a world-renowned researcher of underwater life.

On Sunday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m., an exhibition of the award-winning underwater photographs will be opened in the presence of the laureates at the Museum of Natural History in Görlitz, Am Museum 1. Admission to both events is free.
