The first title in the October programme of the Discussion Film Club will be John Carney’s American production “Begin Again”, a story about break-ups and reunions, careers, fame and growing up. The leading roles are played by Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.

The next title is considered by critics to be one of the better films shown at last year’s Cannes International Film Festival. The drama “In the East, a Time” tells the story of two strangers in the Iraqi countryside. A teacher and a commandant fight for quality education for children, the elimination of corruption and the rule of law. All this takes place within a closed culture where a woman’s virginity and unwillingness to submit to patriarchal solutions are the first steps towards tragedy.

On the third Monday of the month, the film “The Geographer Drank Away His Globe” will be screened, one of the most interesting and frequently awarded Russian films of the last season. The film draws on the classical tradition of the best works of Soviet cinematography; it does not try to shock, lecture or put the viewer in a reflective mood, but tells a story in which everyone will find something close and important to them.

On the last Monday of October, “The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq” will be screened, a film presented at this year’s festival in Berlin. It was the film most often discussed, and Tadeusz Sobolewski compared it to our “The Cruise”.
