– Despite warnings and advance notice of inspections, there are still quite often drivers who not only disregard the regulations but are downright lacking in imagination – said Jerzy Łużniak, deputy mayor of the city and initiator of the idea of warning people about speed-camera inspections.

He added: – It is difficult to describe the actions of at least two drivers from last Friday any other way. One was driving in Goduszyn, where the speed limit is 40 km/h, at 92 km/h; the road there is, after all, both quite narrow and winding. The other was driving along Sobieszowska Street (50 km/h) at 101 km/h. In addition, he overtook an entire column of cars on a double solid line and drove onto the painted island separating the traffic lanes. These are situations that pose an extremely serious threat to road safety. It was in precisely this way that an accident occurred several years ago, on this very street, when a speeding car hit from behind a cyclist who was standing correctly in the centre of the carriageway and waiting for an opportunity to turn left. The cyclist died at the scene.
