The accused psychiatrist voluntarily agreed to submit to punishment in December last year. At that time, his defence lawyer requested a five-year ban on holding managerial positions and working as a court expert. However, the court wanted to revoke Jerzy B.’s right to practise medicine altogether for two years. The defendant’s lawyer ultimately agreed to this condition. In addition to the temporary loss of Jerzy B.’s right to practise, the court sentenced him to an additional one and a half years in prison suspended for two years and a fine of PLN 9,800.

The doctor was charged with a total of five offences. Three concerned accepting bribes amounting to more than PLN 4,500 and 300 marks. The two remaining charges concerned obstructing criminal proceedings in the courts in Lubań and Złotoryja.

The trial of the second psychiatrist charged in the case, Jan K., former director of the Regional Hospital for the Nervously and Mentally Ill, is still ongoing before the court in Bolesławiec.
