The incident occurred on 27 August; we wrote about it in the article Tragic accident: motorcyclist’s leg severed. That day, at around 6:00 p.m., Robert Dziubak was driving from Bolesławiec to Ruszów through Osiecznica. Just beyond Dobra, after exiting a bend onto a straight stretch of road, he saw an unusual sight: a man was lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road, while a damaged car and a motorcycle lying in a ditch were several metres away.

It was clear that this was a person injured in a road accident that had occurred several dozen seconds earlier. As a result of a collision with a passenger car, the motorcyclist had lost his leg. The severed part was lying beside the car, and the amputation had caused massive bleeding.

The volunteer firefighter from the Ruszów Volunteer Fire Service (Węgliniec municipality, Zgorzelec County) immediately ran to his car to get a first-aid kit and began stopping the bleeding. He used the injured person’s belt to make a tourniquet around the thigh and began treating the severe wound.

After a moment, two volunteers from the Osiecznica Volunteer Fire Service joined him: Damian Tomiak and Dawid Stryczek.

His decisive attitude, composure and swift, effective action to save the severely injured motorcyclist significantly increased the chance of saving his life, which was threatened by the heavy bleeding.

Robert Dziubak, Damian Tomiak and Dawid Styczek received letters of commendation from the firefighters of the Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service.
