Representatives of veterans’ organizations, clergy of various denominations, including Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Legnica Marek Mendyk, councillors, students from Legnica schools and representatives of national minorities attended the commemorative ceremonies. Color guards were present, while students from the uniformed classes of General Secondary School Complex No. 3 and scouts provided the ceremonial guard.
The tragic events of 75 years ago also had references to the current situation—the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. This was emphatically highlighted by President Tadeusz Krakowski: “We are horrified by what is happening there. We do not want the nightmare of war to come true. I hope that this conflict will be brought to an end. Let us focus on building peace. The memory of the events of 75 years ago should always accompany us so that this ordeal never happens again.”
