Satirical drawings by Zbigniew Jujka have entertained several generations of Poles, appearing not only in numerous magazines but also in dozens of albums, books and textbooks that he illustrated. His distinctive line, witty commentaries and characters—usually ordinary “gray” citizens caught up in everyday life, with all its irony and stupidity—make the work of the Gdańsk artist recognizable and highly regarded not only in Poland but also abroad.

The exhibition presented at the Museum features the artist’s most recent works, created largely to mark his 25-year friendship with NSZZ “Solidarność,” which resulted in the publication in 2005 of an anniversary collection of drawings entitled “Through Joint Effort.” It is therefore worth seeing Poland’s recent history interpreted humorously “with pen and word.” Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the artist in person, a man regarded as the most perceptive and tireless satirist of our national shortcomings. Zbigniew Jujka accepted the invitation to the meeting and will be the Museum’s guest on 20 January (Friday) at 5:00 p.m. in the building at 13 Mickiewicza Street.
